Types of Limit and Stop Orders

For a limit order, specify a price more favorable than the current market price. For a stop order, specify a price less favorable than the current market price.

Buy Stop — Buy when the price rises above the current price

  1. Set “Price” above the current market price.
  2. Set TP above the order price. (Optional)
  3. Set SL below the order price. (Optional)

Sell Limit — Sell when the price rises above the current price

  1. Set “Price” above the current market price.
  2. Set TP below the order price. (Optional)
  3. Set SL above the order price. (Optional)

Buy Limit — Buy when the price falls below the current price

  1. Set “Price” below the current market price.
  2. Set TP above the order price. (Optional)
  3. Set SL below the order price. (Optional)

Sell Stop — Sell when the price falls below the current price

  1. Set “Price” below the current market price.
  2. Set TP below the order price. (Optional)
  3. Set SL above the order price. (Optional)

Stop-limit orders are available on MT5 only.

Buy Stop Limit

When the price rises above the current price, a Buy Limit order—an order to buy if the price subsequently falls—is placed. The position is opened when the specified Buy Limit price is reached.

  1. Set “Price” above the current market price.
  2. Set “Stop Limit Price” below “Price.”
  3. Set TP above the “Stop Limit Price.” (Optional)
  4. Set SL below the “Stop Limit Price.” (Optional)

Sell Stop Limit

When the price falls below the current price, a Sell Limit order—an order to sell if the price subsequently rises—is placed. The position is opened when the specified Sell Limit price is reached.

  1. Set “Price” below the current market price.
  2. Set “Stop Limit Price” above “Price.”
  3. Set TP below the “Stop Limit Price.” (Optional)
  4. Set SL above the “Stop Limit Price.” (Optional)
