Due to the design of MT4, price alerts are primarily created using the desktop version.

The MT4 mobile app does not support creating custom price alerts on its own. If you would like to receive alerts on your smartphone, you will need to create the alert in the desktop version and enable push notifications to your mobile device.

 

💻MT4 Desktop: Setting Up Price Alerts
 

Method 1: Set an Alert Directly from the Chart

You can quickly create and adjust alerts directly on the chart using your mouse.

Step 1: Right-click near the price level on the chart where you want to set an alert.

Step 2: From the menu, click Trading > Alert.

Step 3: A red dashed line (representing the alert level) will appear on the chart.

Step 4: Move your mouse over the red dashed line until the cursor changes to a vertical double-arrow (↕). Click and drag the line up or down to your desired price level.

To delete the alert: Right-click the red dashed line and select Delete.

 


Method 2: Set an Alert Using the Terminal Window

Step 1: Click the Alerts tab in the Terminal window at the bottom of MT4.

(If the Terminal window is not visible, select View > Terminal from the menu or press Ctrl + T.)

Step 2: Right-click the blank area within the Alerts tab and select Create.

Step 3: Configure the following settings:

  • Enable: Tick the checkbox.
  • Action: Select Sound (plays a sound on your PC).
  • Symbol: Select the instrument you want to monitor.
  • Condition: Choose one of the following:
    • Bid >
    • Bid <
    • Ask >
    • Ask <
    • Time =
      (For Time =, enter the time according to your computer's system clock.)
  • Value: Enter the target price.
  • Source: Specify how frequently the alert repeats (in seconds).
  • Maximum Iterations: Set how many times the alert repeats after the condition is met.
    (Set to 1 if you only want the alert once.)

Step 4: Click OK to save.

To edit: Right-click the alert in the Alerts tab, select Modify, make your changes, then click OK.

To delete: Right-click the alert and select Delete.


 📱 MT4 Mobile: Receiving Push Notifications

The MT4 mobile app cannot create custom price alerts. Instead, it receives push notifications sent from the desktop version.

 

Step 1: Find Your MetaQuotes ID

iPhone

Open the app → Settings → Chat and Messages → Note your MetaQuotes ID displayed at the bottom.

Android

Open the app → Menu (☰) → Messages (or Settings > Messages) → Note your MetaQuotes ID.

Important: Ensure notifications are enabled for the MT4 app in your phone's system settings.

 

Step 2: Register Your MetaQuotes ID in MT4 Desktop

Step 1: Go to Tools > Options.

Step 2: Open the Notifications tab.

Step 3: Check Enable Push Notifications, then enter your MetaQuotes ID.

Step 4: Click Test to verify that your phone receives the notification. If successful, click OK.


Step 3: Send Alerts to Your Phone

Open the alert settings by double-clicking the red dashed line on the chart or by editing the alert from the Alerts tab.

Change Action from Sound to Notification.

Once configured, your smartphone will receive a push notification whenever the specified price is reached, provided the MT4 desktop platform remains running.

 

🚨 Troubleshooting Push Notifications

If notifications are not arriving on your phone, check the following:

 

Check 1: Are notifications enabled on your phone?

Even if MT4 is configured correctly, notifications will not arrive if your phone blocks them.

iPhone

Settings → Notifications → MetaTrader 4 → Allow Notifications.

Android

Settings → Notifications → App Notifications → MetaTrader 4 → Enable Notifications.

Check 2: Is MT4 running on your computer?

The desktop version monitors prices and sends push notifications.

If your computer is turned off, asleep, or MT4 is closed, notifications will not be sent.

For 24/7 alerts, keep your PC running or use a VPS.

Check 3: Is your MetaQuotes ID correct?

Verify there are no typing errors, incorrect capitalization, or extra spaces.

Go to Tools > Options > Notifications to check.

Check 4: Does the Test button work?

Click Test under Tools > Options > Notifications.

  • If the test notification arrives, check that the alert's Action is set to Notification.
  • If the test notification does not arrive, verify your MetaQuotes ID or check whether your firewall or security software is blocking MT4.

Check 5: Has the alert already been triggered?

If Maximum Iterations is set to 1, the alert will only trigger once.

If you need another notification at the same price, create a new alert or reactivate the existing one.
